Singapore table tennis team wins championship: Is there any glory? There have been a lot of mixed reviews over Singapore paddlers’ recent win over China in the Moscow tournament. Many Singaporeans felt proud of the win as Singapore finally wins something on an international level. However, there has been debate over the issues as not many local Singaporeans think likewise. They felt that it was a match between “China VS China” not “Singapore Vs China”. Hence, regardless who wins the benefit of glory still goes to china. Other countries might also perceived Singapore in a bad way. They might think that even though we won, we did not win it with our own talent and strength. Unlike them, they groom their own talent. They might think that we “cheated”. There is no pride in buying foreign talent to represent Singapore. Most of them were selected from China’s reserve team. Not only were born China, they spent most of their life there and only spent a few years in Singapore. When they represent Singapore and hold our flag up high do they really feel the bond with us or they did it for the prize money. Some even say that they are Singapore’s China “B” team. All in all, honestly I do not feel proud of their win,i think only someone who grow up in Singapore is more suitable to represent us.
